What is a salary slip?
A salary slip, also called a payslip, is a monthly statement that shows what an employee earned, what was deducted and what they took home. Employees use it as a record, and it is often asked for when applying for loans or visas.
What a salary slip contains
A good slip shows the company and employee details, the pay period and pay date, the earnings such as basic salary and allowances, the deductions such as income tax and provident fund, the gross total, the total deductions and the net pay. Billfy also writes the net pay in words.
How to create salary slips
Enter the company and employee details, choose the pay period, then list the earnings and deductions. Press Add earning or Add deduction for more lines. Pick the first and last month to make several slips at once, check any month in the preview and press Download PDF.
Who uses a salary slip generator
Small businesses, shops, start-ups and agencies that pay a few employees use it to give clear monthly slips without payroll software. Only make slips for salaries that were really paid, and use the figures from your payroll.
What Billfy does not do
Billfy adds up the amounts you enter. It does not calculate income tax or statutory contributions, and it does not replace payroll advice. Check the right amounts with your accountant.
Salary slip format: a worked example
Here is how a simple monthly salary slip looks. The company is Acme Traders, the employee is Ali Raza and the pay period is April 2026. The names and numbers are only an example, and all amounts are in PKR.
| Earnings | Amount | Deductions | Amount |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic salary | 50,000.00 | Income tax | 3,000.00 |
| House rent allowance | 20,000.00 | Provident fund | 2,500.00 |
| Conveyance allowance | 5,000.00 | Loan instalment | 5,000.00 |
| Gross earnings | 75,000.00 | Total deductions | 10,500.00 |
Gross earnings are the total of all earnings, which is 75,000.00 here. Total deductions are 10,500.00. Net pay is gross earnings minus deductions, which is 64,500.00 (Rupees Sixty Four Thousand Five Hundred Only). Billfy uses the same layout and writes the net pay in words for you.
What each part of a salary slip means
Basic salary is the fixed part of the pay. Allowances, such as house rent or conveyance, are extra amounts on top of it. Bonuses and overtime are added in the months they are paid. Deductions are amounts taken out of the pay, such as income tax, provident fund or EOBI where they apply, loan instalments and advances. Gross earnings are the total before deductions, and net pay is what the employee actually receives.
Tips for accurate salary slips
Use the figures from your payroll records and make sure the net pay matches the bank transfer. Keep the pay date consistent each month, number the slips in order and keep a copy of every slip. If you pay in cash, say so in the notes box. When a tax or contribution amount changes, update the line before you create the next slip.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between gross pay and net pay?
Gross pay is the total of all earnings before deductions. Net pay is what remains after deductions such as tax, provident fund and loan instalments, and it is the amount the employee receives.
What should a salary slip include?
The company name, the employee's name and details, the pay period and pay date, the earnings, the deductions, the net pay, and often the net pay in words. Billfy adds all of these.
Can I make salary slips for several months at once?
Yes. Choose the first and last month and Billfy makes one slip per month with the same amounts, in one PDF with each slip on its own page.
Does Billfy calculate tax or provident fund?
No. You enter the amounts from your payroll, and Billfy adds them up to give gross earnings, total deductions and net pay.
Can I add my logo, signature and stamp?
Yes. Add your logo, your signature and a company stamp as images. They stay on your device.
Which currencies are supported?
PKR, INR, AED, SAR, GBP, USD and EUR. The net pay in words follows the currency you choose.
Is my employee data uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is sent to a server.
