What is a rent receipt?
A rent receipt is a written record that a tenant paid rent to a landlord for a given period. It names the landlord and the tenant, the property, the amount, the month and how the rent was paid.
Why tenants ask for monthly rent receipts
In India, salaried people who claim house rent allowance (HRA) are often asked by their employer for rent receipts. Tenants also keep receipts as proof of payment for their own records. Only make receipts for rent that was actually paid.
What to include on a rent receipt
Include the landlord's name and address, the tenant's name, the address of the rented property, the rent amount in numbers and words, the month the rent is for, the date and the payment mode. A signature from the landlord makes the receipt more useful. If your employer asks for the landlord's PAN, add it in the optional box.

The receipt then reads: "Received with thanks from Priya Sharma the sum of INR 25,000.00 (Rupees Twenty Five Thousand Only) towards rent for the month of July 2026 for the property at Flat 4B, Green Heights, Pune." Billfy writes this sentence for you and fills in the amount in words.
One receipt for each month
